Mustangs Announce Kevin Soine as Head Coach

Updated December 06 2017

Martinsville, Va.-  The Martinsville Mustangs have announced Kevin Soine as the Mustangs head coach for 2018.  Soine takes over for Danny Higginbotham who accepted the head coaching position for the Macon Bacon CPL franchise.

“I am incredibly humbled and honored to be the next head coach for the Martinsville Mustangs. I want to thank Brian, Brendan and the rest of the organization for this amazing opportunity, and for the confidence they have shown in me.,” said Soine.

Soine was a member of the 2017 Mustangs coaching staff as the hitting coach under Higginbotham.  He is currently serving as the Assistant Hitting Coach and Catching Coach for the Murray State College Aggies in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.

“I also want to thank Danny Higginbotham. Having had the privilege of being on his staff last summer, I learned a great deal from him and am indebted to him for that opportunity. He has been a great mentor and friend to me over the past year and I couldn’t be more excited to continue and improve upon the excellent foundation he has built in Martinsville.” said Soine.

Mustangs General Manager, Brian McConnell, is excited to have him back in Martinsville.

“I am very excited for the chance to work with Kevin to build the 2018 Mustangs,” McConnell said.  “We loved what we saw out of him during his time in Martinsville this past season and how much he bought into this community.  He will be a great fit for Martinsville and we are glad to have him on board”

Coach Soine was also a Graduate Assistant at the University of Dubuque located in Dubuque, Iowa before moving to Murray State College.  As a player, he played outfield and pitched for Grand View University in Des Moines, IA; being named to the all-conference team twice. Before transferring to GVU, he also played two seasons as an outfielder at Century College in White Bear Lake, MN.

“Last but not least, I want to give a special thanks to the host families and the community of Martinsville for making all this possible.  I can’t wait for the 2018 summer to get here and to see everyone back out at Hooker Field.”  Soine continued.

The Mustangs will kickoff their 2018 CPL season on May 31 when they host the Asheboro Copperheads!
