Following a 12-1 romping of the High Point-Thomasville Locos on Opening Night of 2020 exhibition play, the Martinsville Mustangs completed a dramatic comeback with a 4-3 walk-off victory over the Guilford Lumberkings on Friday night at Hooker Field.

Right-hander Jose Martinez (Saint Joseph’s) made his first start of the summer on the mound, allowing only one earned run in two innings of work.

Trailing 3-0 at the end of six innings, the Mustangs scored all four runs in the bottom of the ninth to improve to 2-0 in preseason action.

After the Mustangs loaded the bases in the home half of the ninth inning, infielder Logan Fink (Kennesaw St) singled home Martinsville’s first two runs of the night to make it a 3-2 deficit. Second baseman Jimmy Losh (Millersville) later scored on a wild pitch to even the contest at 3-3.

With the game tied, Christian Easley (UMBC), a Henry County, VA native, shot a single up the middle to give the Mustangs a 4-3 comeback win.

Will Davis (Ferrum), Josh Greggs (Millersville) and Hunter Treece (Millersville) all saw their first action on the bump and held Guilford to just one run while striking out a combined 12 hitters.

The Mustangs return to Hooker Field on Saturday night for another exhibition match-up with the Statesville Owls. Purchase your tickets here.
