The Martinsville Mustangs capped off a full day of baseball at Hooker Field with a 14-6 exhibition victory over the Old North State League East All-Stars 14-6 on Saturday night.

Third baseman Jack Elliott (Mercyhurst) stole the show at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with five RBI including a big three-run, bases clearing double in the third to trim the once 5-0 deficit to 5-4.

After the East All-Stars pushed the lead to 6-4, the Mustangs (4-3, 1-3) got one back on an RBI single by Jimmy Losh (Millersville) in the sixth and then put up a five-spot in the seventh to pull ahead for good 9-6.

In the seventh, it was an RBI single by Elliott, a sac-fly RBI from catcher Matt Suggs (UNCW), a steal of home and a two-run triple to the wall by outfielder Justin Rodriguez (NC A&T) that helped the Mustangs grab a late advantage.

Right-hander Kyle Ruehlman (Gardner-Webb) worked three scoreless innings of relief on the mound, allowing only two hits and striking out five in being credited with the win.

The Mustangs tacked on four more insurance runs in the eighth after RBI singles from Joe Simone (Gardner-Webb), Elliott and a big two-run blast over the scoreboard in left off the bat of Suggs made it 14-6.

Martinsville returns to action on Monday night for a non-conference contest with the Catawba Valley Stars. First pitch from Hooker Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
