Depsite trailing 3-0 in the first, the Martinsville Mustangs rallied back for a 9-6 win over the Peninsula Pilots on Saturday night at Hooker Field to secure a Coastal Plain League series victory.

Right-hander Logan Campbell (Charleston) made his third start of the regular season on the mound and allowed five runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of work.

In the home half of the first, the Mustangs (8-4, 3-4 CPL) used RBI singles from Joe Simone (Gardner-Webb) and Steve D’Eusanio (Youngstown St) plus a two-run double to the wall in left-center by catcher Matt Stone (Georgetown) to grab an early 4-3 lead.

Trailing 5-4 in the fourth, shortstop Landon Shaw (Presbyterian) doubled home the tying run and Matt Goodheart (Arkansas) picked up an RBI single before outfielder Will Knight (VMI) capped the inning off with a two-run blast to give the Mustangs an 8-5 advantage.

Righy Kevin Kopps (Arkansas) tossed 4.1 stellar innings of relief, allowing only two hits and striking out six in notching his first win of the summer.

The Mustangs added another in the fifth on a Shaw RBI sac-fly to make it 9-5 and lefty Corey Spain (Arkansas) finished the final two innings on the mound, allowing only the one earned run and striking out a pair to help finish off the Pilots.

Martinsville returns home on Sunday night for a non-conference contest with the Bull City Crash at 7 p.m.
