For Immediate Release

Martinsville, VA – The Martinsville Mustangs have named Brandon Nania head coach for the 2021 season. Nania, a Murrysville, Pennsylvania native, currently serves as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at nearby Patrick Henry Community College. Nania also spent the 2020 summer on the Martinsville coaching staff.

“I’m so excited to be back with the organization this summer and stepping into a bigger role for the Mustangs,” Nania said. “I can’t thank Greg Suire and everyone involved with the Martinsville Mustangs enough for this opportunity. This organization cares about the community and its players. Jake Marinelli left a great foundation for us to build on, and it was a pleasure getting to learn from him.”

A PHCC alumnus, Nania put together a historic career with the Patriots. A two-time All-Region selection and member of the All-Defensive team, Nania set the PHCC single season for RBI’s (60), career RBI’s (117), career doubles (42), and career home runs (16) before moving onto Winston-Salem State University.

As an assistant coach with the Mustangs in 2020, Nania guided outfielder Joe Simone to a Coastal Plain League First-Team selection as well as hitters Brady Slavens, Matt Goodheart and Christian Easley to Second-Team honors during the squads successful 19-12-1 campaign.

“We are excited to meet our players and get them to Martinsville. We are not only going to make them better baseball players, but also mold them into better people,” Nania added. “I’m excited to work with the community and give them fantastic baseball to watch all summer long. We can’t wait to get Mustangs fans back in the stands and pack Hooker Field!”.
