Fueled by a five-run second inning, the Martinsville Mustangs knocked off the Carolina Disco Turkeys 7-1 in exhibition play for a fourth straight victory on Monday night at Hooker Field.

Right-hander Bryan Juarez (Cumberlands) made the start on the mound for Martinsville, tossing two shutout innings and allowing only one hit while striking out two. The Mustangs used an impressive combination of six other relievers including Stephen Klenske (Sac State), Martin Sosna (Miami OH), Anthony Fidanza (Southern), Ryan Smerkar (Meryhurst), Andrew Mayhew (Millsersville) and JT Inskeep (VMI) to shut down the Disco Turkeys the rest of the way.

In the second, the Mustangs took advantage of several wild pitches and bases loaded walks to manufacture a 5-0 lead. In the sixth, the Mustangs tacked on two more, including an RBI single by second baseman Liam Ward (Niagara) to seal the victory.

Following off-days Tuesday and Wednesday, Martinsville returns to action at Hooker Field on Thursday night at 7 p.m. against the High Point-Thomasville HiToms. It’s Bark in the Park, presented by Martinsville-Henry County SPCA, so be sure to bring your favorite four-legged friends out to the ballpark.
