Fueled by an eight-run fifth inning, the Martinsville Mustangs powered past the Wake Forest Fungo 14-0 in non-conference play on Tuesday night at Hooker Field.

Right-hander Hunter Treece (Mercyhurst) got the start on the mound and allowed only four hits in four innings while striking out two.

In the third, outfielder Joe Simone (Gardner-Webb) doubled home the first run of the night and second baseman Brady Slavens (Arkansas) followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0.

Righty Jose Fernandez (Saint Joseph’s) entered in the fifth and went two solid innings, allowing just two hits in being credited with his second win of the summer.

After loading the bases multiple times in the fifth, the Mustangs (6-3, 1-3) used another RBI single from Slavens, a sac-fly RBI by Will Knight (VMI), a few Fungo throwing errors, a Steve D’Eusanio (Youngstown State) RBI single and a Matt Stone (Georgetown) RBI double to make it 11-0.

In the sixth, D’Eusanio launched a three-run homer over the fence in left-center to extend the lead to 14-0 and help the Mustangs earn back-to-back run-rule victories.

Martinsville resumes divisional play on Thursday night with the first of three contests against the Peninsula Pilots. First pitch from Hooker Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
