The Martinsville Mustangs are pleased to name Connor Akeman the franchise’s new general manager.
“Connor’s commitment and unwavering passion for the Mustangs thrust him to the top of our candidates list when Ruthanne Duffy decided not to return,” Mustangs President Greg Suire said. “Ruthanne served as a great mentor to Connor and I know he’s prepared for this new role and our franchise’s new direction and enhanced expectation.”
Akeman, a Tampa, Florida native, is entering his fourth season with the Mustangs in 2021. He spent the 2018, 2019 and 2020 summers in Martinsville as the play-by-play voice of the Mustangs, while managing social media outlets and maintaining the team website. Akeman was also responsible for writing game recaps, press releases and player features and assisted with day-to-day operational tasks for the team.
“The opportunity to return to Martinsville was one I simply could not pass up,” Akeman said. “I want to thank Greg Suire for entrusting me with this next step and Ruthanne Duffy for being an outstanding leader to learn from. I am thrilled to get back to work with our season ticket holders, community partners, host families and fans to continue to offer an organization that this great baseball community can be proud of.”
Prior to his position with the Mustangs, Akeman covered the athletic program at the University of South Florida, where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications in May 2017. He also spent four seasons as a Media Relations assistant covering the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League.
